Remarks Lawrence was born in Albany, New York.  He was a 1939 Yale graduate and was attending Yale Law School when called up in the Naval Reserve.  He was a classmate of Richard Harold Seligman, also lost on USS Runner, and Gordon Phillips Hoover, lost on USS Cisco.
