Pat was born in Duhring, West Virginia.  He was buried at Corozal American Cemetery, Panama Canal Zone.

According to the muster rolls of USS Lagarto and the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, Pat died "of coronary thrombosis while Lagarto lay at Saboya Anchorage, off Perlas Island, Panama."
