Remarks Chief Hastings was stationed on USS Peary (DD-226), and was wounded when Japanese bombers hit the Cavite Navy Yard on December 10, 1941. When he left the hospital he was assigned to USS Canopus until she was scuttled on April 10, 1942. After the surrender of US Forces in the Philippines, he became a POW.
