Remarks John was a son of James and Catherine Purcell of Scranton, Pennsylvania, who were originally from Ballycastle, County Mayo, Ireland. He had two siblings, Joseph and James. He married his wife, Anne, in June 1940 in Maplewood, New Jersey. John was a graduate of Penn State University and in civilian life was a Science and Math teacher. He was apparently known as Frank to his friends.
